Convenience unlocked

The Shift Lock Release Button is only present in cars with automatic transmissions. When the engine is turned off, this button, when operated, allows the gear lever to be shifted out of ‘P’ or Park Mode.

This is useful as automatic car engines can only be turned off when they are in ‘P’ mode. However, if you need to double park and leave the car in ‘N’ neutral, this button can be used.

Its also handy for shifting the transmission into ‘N’ or Neutral position for pushing a car when the battery is dead.
